Tudo começou em 2019, quando frequentei um curso de Design Têxtil na University of the Arts London. No projeto final, o desafio era partir de uma ideia, de um elemento ou de uma técnica criativa e transformá-la num padrão. Foi aí que descobri o yarn winding: uma técnica muito simples, baseada no gesto de enrolar fios, combinando cores, espessuras e ritmos para criar padrões. Comecei por experimentar. Enrolar, combinar, repetir, alterar cores, criar sequências. E rapidamente esse gesto se tornou quase viciante. Percebi que, apenas com fios, conseguia construir composições, explorar ritmo, cor e textura, criando padrões sempre diferentes. As primeiras peças eram pequenas e fiz muitas para oferecer a amigos. Depois comecei a criar trabalhos para a minha própria casa, sempre a experimentar novas combinações e novas formas de trabalhar os fios. Com o tempo, aquilo que começou como uma experiência transformou-se numa verdadeira paixão. Hoje, dou por mim todos os dias a imaginar novas possibilidades: outras cores, outros ritmos, outras formas de enrolar, cruzar e organizar os fios. É precisamente essa vontade constante de experimentar e fazer diferente que continua a alimentar o meu trabalho.

It all started in 2019, when I attended a Textile Design course at the University of the Arts London. In the final project, the challenge was to start from an idea, an element or a creative technique and transform it into a pattern. That's when I discovered yarn winding: a very simple technique, based on the gesture of winding yarn, combining colors, thicknesses and rhythms to create patterns. I started by experimenting. Rolling, combining, repeating, changing colors, creating sequences. And quickly this gesture became almost addictive. I realized that, with just wires, I could build compositions, explore rhythm, color and texture, creating always different patterns. The first pieces were small and I made many to offer to friends. Then I started creating works for my own home, always trying new combinations and new ways of working the threads. Over time, what started as an experience turned into a true passion. Today, I find myself imagining new possibilities every day: other colors, other rhythms, other ways of winding, crossing and organizing the threads. It is precisely this constant desire to experiment and do differently that continues to fuel my work. Jo.ana
